Hatemongering

July 15, 2003

It was only today that I managed to find the type of despicable imagery used by the Chavistas at the burial of Cardinal Velazco last week, Venezuela’s highest Catholic priest. There were many posters like this one as well as guys disguised as Cardinals and looking like the devil. This is the type of hatemongering this ugly revolution wants to promote.

Brazil to name new Ambassador

July 9, 2003

The Government of Brazil will remove Ambassador Ruy Nogueira. Nogueira had become controversial after the infamous “Petarazo” when he came out in Manus, Brazil and said that the rally had been a provocation of the opposition and that they were simply looking for violence. While the Brazilians deny that this was the reason for Nogueira’s removal, the truth is that given the fact that Brazil is part of the “Group of Friends” his positions have been at least quite embarrassing to Lula. Curiously, Nogueira had also announced a visit by Brazilian President Lula to Venezuela which has now been postponed despite its proximity.

From top to bottom clockwise: A spectacular Cattleya Warneri given to me by RICSEL, Leptotes bicolor and a nice Laelia Purpurata.

The genius of Weil revisited

July 4, 2003

No question in my mind that cartoonist Weil is a genius, for proof the last two cartoons in Tal Cual yesterday and today. On the left two huge cases filled with money and the Minister of Finance in the middle, in reference to the queationable transactions done by the Finance Minsitry. On the right, a guy is first thanking the Robinson plan for teaching him to read, until he gets to read the paper. Enough said.

The Boston Group is at the beach!

July 3, 2003

Daniel sends in this article which reveals what nobody has said in Venezuela: The “Boston” group of National Assembly Deputies is not in Boston, they are in Nantucket. Now, I am for Deputies from both sides improving democracy, talking to each other and learning to be civil, but somehow I feel betrayed by both sides. They should be here electing an Electoral Board so that we can get out of this stupid crisis through democratic means, not in Nantucket, eating Lobster, playing softball and watching the sunsets, while we are all here being screwed by both sides! What’s the problem? They did not know what democracy was about when they were elected? They should then resign, if they have to set aside their responsabilities to learn about it four years later. Shame on them!

A peek at a Bolivarian Circle

June 28, 2003

Oscar sends in these pictures from the Headquarters of a Bolivarian Circle in a little town:

The proud member of the circle stands in front. The building says things like “With Chavez the people rule” “he does not leave” “They will not come back” “VTV (The Government TV station) The station of the sovereign people” But what I found more offensive was the Chavez version of the Creed shown blown up on the right. It starts:

I believe in the all powerful revolution, which created the fishing and land law. I believe in Hugo Chavez (misspelled), his only son, that was conceived by deed and grace of the people….

and it ends:

Say this prayer all mornings, pronouncing (misspelled) the following phrase three times;

They will never come back
