We should emulate Central Park protest

February 8, 2003

I think Venezuelans should emulate the Central Park protest yesterday where 30 naked women wrote out the word “Bush” with their bodies on the snow

We have a number of advantages. First of all it is warm. Second there are so many women protesters we could probably write out the Constitution with their bodies on Caracas’ highways. Third they are very pretty so the country will, once again, come to a standstill.  I also propose men participate. This might not get rid of Chavez, but it will be a lot of fun for all and will make a lot of Chavista men switch sides in envy. I am sure the Vice-President will say the women were ugly, nobody enjoyed it and it never took place anyway.

(This type of protest is catching on, I already reported on a similar one in San Francisco, where the word peace was written out by 50 naked women)

Best poster ever: A tribute to Venezuelan women

February 4, 2003

This may be the best poster I have seen at a march: It is humorous but at the same time pays tribute to what Venezuelan women have contributed to the fight against Hugo Chavez. If anyone has doubts just go back to the Jan. 17th. and 18th. pictures of the way the National Guard treated the women in Valencia. The sign says: The panties of Venezuelan women…….The rest is explained very well graphically

Top left, two very pretty entrepreneurs sell and show their wares from their car. Right, this guy put a big sign up on his battered car encouraging people to go to the firmazo.

Very Good turnout for the Firmazo

February 2, 2003

Very long lines in Altamira Square (top left) note line goes around the corner and ends on the left of the picture. More relaxed crowd in Castellana Square. The “Firmazo” (Big sign up) appears to be a success as people came out strong and are signing all petitions massively. More photos in the Pictures section.

Big march in defense of the media and showing off to the amigos

January 31, 2003

It was simply huge                               Top and bottom of the highway, just huge!!

Another huge march today to defend the media not only against the possible suspension, but also against the bill to control “content” which will be introuduced next week. The march ended in front of the Hotel where the “amigos” are staying so it was also a chance to “show off” our strength. It was indeed impressive. Above left Carla Angola, TV reporter, the sexy symbol of the opposition. Above right, patriotic muffins and cakes for sale in the march. More photos in the Pictures section.
