Another giant step for freedom of the press in Venezuela, scandal=terrorism

August 13, 2007

And in another giant great contribution to freedom of speech and democracy, burping General (r) Acosta Carles now takes the press, accusing them that their “scandals”, such as the corruption scandals surrounding PDVSA and Maletagate are a way of generating Terrorism!!!

Sure, we have a free press with no pressures…

The scandals generate terrorism…Security is the co-responsability of all of us…

Two species from Eduardo

August 12, 2007

Eduardo M. sends these two pictures of his plants, now in clear competition with his brothers Santos, which can only help this page and its vieweres as they have wonderful plants as shown below

On the left a picture of two generations, on the basket at the right side of the picture is Cattleya Jenmanii semi-alba Armando Mantellini which has eight flowers and on the left is a seedling of the same plant croosed with itslef. On the eight Cattleya Lueddemanniana Margaret.

A festival of Cattleya Lueddemanniana from Santos

August 7, 2007

Santos sent a lot of new pictures, we will have a feast in the next few days, here show six very nice Cattleya Lueddemanniana, one of the best Cattleyas from Venezuela.

Top left, the queen of the Cattleya Lueddemanniana, Cat. Lueddemanniana “Mariauxi”, spectacular form and color. On the right, Cat. Lueddemanniana “Maria Callas”

Top left, Cat. Lueddemanniana “Maria Cecilia”, on the left a Cat. Lueddemanniana grown from seed, very nice lip

Two very nice Cat. Lueddemanniana from seed.

A nice set of flowers, mostly species.

August 5, 2007

I am now back with some of my own plants below. Did not have much before, but things are beginning to bloom.

Above left my prize winning Cattleya Jenmanii Castro x Rosa, I repotted it and had stop flowering, but it ahs clearly come back with force. On the right is a Cattleya Gaskelliana Alberto x Hot Fire. Both are Venezuelan species.

Above is this fantastic specimen plant of Dendrobium Insigne. Over 100 flowers like that one the right. The bad news, they are only open for two or three days. This is its best flowering so far.

Above is a nice picture of a bunch from a Brassia Datacosta. It is hard to get it all in focus but it worked this time. On the right, one flower up close. Each flower is like six seven inches in size because of the spindly sepals.

More from Santos

July 26, 2007

More pictures from Santos M., lots more coming in the future! Below top lft a very nicely shaped Cattleya Lueddemanianna. On the right an unidentified hybrid. In the next row, onthe bottom left there is a Ionopsis and on the right a beautiful Lueddemanianna concolor, wish it was mine!

Some of my own pictures

July 23, 2007

At last I got time to take some pictures of the latest flowering. Above a hybrid of Cat. Lulu x Cat. Maui Plum. Yes, it may look artificial, but those are the true colors. On the right a Schomburgkia Brysiana from the Cayman Islands.

On the left a Brassavola Cordata. On the right my Cattleya Violacea. I love this flower, I am no expert and I am not sure how good the flower is, but I just checked and this plant was posted in June 2006 (three flowers), Nov. 2006 (four flowers), April 2007 (5 flowers) and now (four flowers). This from a plant that is not supposed t flower well in Caracas? Strange, no? Anyone want to make a clone?

I love these little Sophronitis Cernua from Brazil, this time I took the picture in full sun.

A friend sends some nice pictures

July 22, 2007

Santos M. saw his brother’s pictures on this page and could not resist sending his own, strangely many of them did not arrive well, but there are sufficient of them to have a few posts while I get my act together with my own. I am guessing at soem of the names, will correct if necessary

On the left Angraecum Leoni from Africa. On the left, it looks like a Cattleya Giga from Colombia.

On the left Cattleya Araguayensis from Brazil, not an easy plant, I had one that flowered twice and the one day it just died. On the right a good bunch of Coryanthes Macrantha.

Above left is a Cycnoches hybrid, one of these days I will get a brain transplant and remember the name, it is some lady’s name. On the right a Trichoglotis from the Philipines.

Laelia Purpuratas galore

June 4, 2007

When it is Laelia Purpurata season (a species from Brazil), you get daily surprises as the flowers come out really fast and the bulbs are thin, so you miss them sometimes. This happened this week, when I only noticed one of the bunches from the pictures below

Nice bunch of laelia Purpurata Delicata

Top left, Laelia Pupurata Werhauseri, right Laelia Purpurata Striata
