Hugo Chavez. Bully, Autocrat and Incompetent

July 25, 2012

The last few days, President Hugo Chavez has clearly demonstrated the qualities that make him unfit to be President even of his condo board, if he had a condo, proving once again that he is intolerant, autocratic and does not believe in modern science and technology. To wit:

1) He spends millions of dollars exhuming the remains of Liberator Simon Bolivar to “prove” that he was killed by the Colombian oligarchy, a silly ideological theory. The scientific study concludes that there is no evidence of any poisoning and that Bolivar more likely died as a consequence of histoplasmosis, a fungal infection.

Chavez’s response? He still thinks that Bolivar was poisoned. This is the same line of reasoning that leads him to think that despite the disastrous economic policies of the last 14 years, they are correct, just because he thinks so. Or that the electric problem is fixed, even if there are daily blackouts. And so on..

As to the reconstruction of Bolivar’s face, what a waste of money! We now know the detailed face of Bolivar just when he died, about the worst point in life you can hope for. So, if you think he looks bad, ugly, emaciated or all of the above. Of course he does, he had just died! What do you expect?

The reconstruction seems consistent with the paintings of Bolivar, just nobody painted him right before his death.

2) Venezuela lost yet again,  another case in the Interamerican Human Rights Court (CIDH). Of course, you don’t respect human rights, they rule against you. Chavez’ response: He ordered his Foreign Minister to withdraw from the Human Rights Court. Among other things he argued, as usual, the “sovereignty” of countries. Where was he when Maduro went to Paraguay to tell the General not to allow Congress to impeach Lugo?

In any case, this is just grandstanding, in his infinite ignorance, Chavez apparently did not know that you can’t withdraw from the CIDH, you have to withdraw from the OAS, of which the CIDH is part. Then he will really be out of the mainstream diplomacy, which he surely does not want.

3) The Governor of Zulia State asks that there be a referendum on the use of the gasoline “chip”, the rationing tag imposed to that State in order to supposedly limit contraband. This possibility is part of the Venezuelan Constitution and it explicitly says a Governor can ask for such a referendum. Mind you, the Constitution is Chavez’ Constitution of the year 2000.

Chavez’ response? To warn the democratically elected Governor that he may suffer the same fate of former Governor of Zulia and Presidential candidate Manuel Rosales. Rosales was accused of corruption after his Presidential run and had to go into exile.

4) During the visit to Venezuela by Argentina’s Minister de Vido, who was part of the Maletagate case, Chavez theatened Repsol quite directly by suggesting that the company better reach an agreement with the Argentinian Government or this may have consequences in Venezuela, where Repsol has important interests. Talk about carrying a big stick! A bully is just a bully, is just a Bully!

I know, I know, is more of the same, we knew all that, it is just amazing that he can do all this in such a short span time.

I thought that this democratically elected Mojón had a reservation at the Caracas landfill. Why isn’t he there yet?

Another way of looking at it is that the intolerant, autocratic ways of some condo nazis cannot help but remind one of the autocratic, intolerant ways of Hugo Chavez.

I am not saying that a condo nazi is as bad as Hugo Chavez. The scale is much different.

  3. Ronaldo Says:

One cannot exam a skull and determine the hairstyle, the skin elasticity, wrinkles, and tone, the clarity of a person’s eyes, the ear size, or other factors.
The computer generated image of Bolivar appears as if it was a idolized portrait by a professional photographer. It is back lit with an upward camera angle making Bolivar appear more authoritative. The front lighting is soft.

The computer generated image appears to be an amalgam of historical painted portraits of Bolivar rather than adding anything new from his bones. To prove the point, his clothes could not be determined from his skeleton.

I wonder if photos of Bolivar’s skeleton will ever be released. Or has Chavez treated Bolivar’s remains like many other Venezuelan treasures and given pieces to dictators around the planet.

  4. Ronaldo Says:

I remember Jacqueline Kennedy had cancer and it reached a point where medical care would not help. She went to her home and passed in a few days. She, of all people, had the wealth and access to the best health care available. Her life could not be extended.

Has Chavez stopped cancer treatment? If not, he is not cured. If yes, can he survive?

It is clear that he is on pain killers, steroids, and whatever else he can take to get a temporary boost. Chavez is not a healthy person. Chavez is a dangerous person who may have nothing to lose because he has no future.

Just released – a new 3D image of Bolivar:

    Looks OK to me.

    • NicaCat56 Says:

In a really creepy way, he kind of looks like Pastor Maldonado. I think it’s the smile. Who has ever seen portraits of Bolívar smiling, anyway?

    • Ronaldo Says:

Excellente. Capriles really is related Bolivar. This is great.

    • Matthew Kiely Says:

Oddly enough, I was thinking that the new bust of Bolivar was looking a little Hugo-ish. Have there been any speculation as to why?

      • Marilu Gruber Says:

I absolutely agree with you! I´m glad to learn that I am not the only one who perceived “Hugo-ish”. looks!

    • Ira Says:

I can guarantee you that no one had teeth that nice back in those days.

So you have to be suspicious of the whole thing.

Forensic reconstruction works okay with fairly RECENT cadavers, but with just bones that old? Forget it:

      That’s fantasyland.

  6. LD Says:

Ah, then why is he not going to El Valle and “reinaugurando” Plaza Bolívar today? Bad planing alone?

    • LD Says:

Looking at this again, the activities were expected to begin at 14pm, they changed it at 13:42 (press release AVN). And tomorrow he would celebrate el asalto al Cuartel Moncada. Ah, corazón de la patria!

  7. megaescualidus Says:

    Miguel,

A little bit off topic (but not entirely…). Has HCF lately been seen in public? Has he been campaigning in public? Is there any indication as to in which health condition he is?

    • Dr. Faustus Says:

His health condition is poor. It is of little importance as to whether Hugo extends his miserable life to October 7th or not. It doesn’t matter. His name will not be on THAT ballot in October! (!) His name on the ballot for President will be changed by October 7th, or (2) they will change the Venezuelan constitution. Anyone wanna bet?

      • moctavio Says:

Faustus: I have a Chavista friend who says that on the last day he can change the name and three days before campaigning has to stop, he will withdraw for health reasons and name his brother. The hope is that the sympathy will carry him over.

        • NET Says:

I believe that even if he’s on his deathbed, he’ll still stay the course through Oct. 7–it’s the only realistic chance the Chavistas have of winning. So far as too sick or not, we should learn more from the coming Mercosur Chulos Gathering, which he expects to attend.

      • Roberto N Says:

How are they going to change the Constitution by Oct 7th?

    • moctavio Says:

He has campaigned three times outside the palace. Little walking. all other appearances are inside, mostly sitting.

      • Carolina Says:

        …on the carnival red float.

      • syd Says:

To compensate for the lack of visible campaigning, he deflects the need by ordering red-herring shows, such as the unveiling of the portrait of Bolívar-as-he-was-in-real-life, by ramping up the anti-majunche rhetoric, and by ensuring that his “supporters” come to him.

Meanwhile, he seems to have stopped the steroids; he’s not as “inflado” as he’s been in months past.

  8. Sigh … the one trick burro bravucón …

Here are some off the cuff rants –

Empecemos por decir “no” con el voto
al hijo mimado del electorado vzlano.

Si no se ponen límites al malcriado,
la permisividad conducira a la violencia.

He’s just a fat, sick, repulsive man
who aged worse than the portrait of Dorian Gray.

tic toc Agosto tic toc Setiembre

tic TOCtubre siete – Haga VALER TU VOTO.
    cheers.

“Where was he when Maduro went to Uruguay to tell the General not to allow Congress to impeach Lugo?”
    ¿Paraguay?
