This is not a joke: Venezuelan Government: Facebook the new weapon of the US Army

August 27, 2009

This is not a joke, from the website of the Government’s TV station

Of course, it is not a “weapon”, but the use of intelligence to identify terrorists groups…but leave it to VTV to make a headline out of it, even if it is deceiving.

The use of weapon in the context of the article is totally out of line and sensationaistic.

    I agree with Bruni.

  3. bruni Says:

  4. moctavio Says:

    Interested yes, “weapon”, no

Miguel, I don’t know why that should be a joke. There is a new field in networking, based on advanced mathematical modeling that specializes in social networks. So there is nothing strange that the US military would be interested in studying those networks and in finding patterns to prevent terrorist attacks.

In fact, given that the US army is responsible for so many developments in applied mathematics and networks (the Arpanet, among them) I would be rather surprised that they were not interested in social networks.

A couple of nights ago on La Hojilla the fool Silva was targeting the youth group JAVU and also Jon…one of his tactics was to make fun of their Facebook pages! He thought everything was so funny and was trying his best to paint them in a negative manner. But Facebook…that’s all he could use? He calls that journalism! Puleeese

after reviewing the source article I give VTV a pass on this… it is selective use of headline no big deal
