Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.

after all, why pay more for goods from Argentina, why close the door on Colombia for a small group of military, why all the diversionary tactics?
it can only be, “something is coming”…
will Hugo use a military confrontation to sidestep or postpone the coming elections? they’re a way off in the future, and I can’t see military action with Colombia lasting more than a few weeks…

BTW…Found the number to be over 100,000,000. A long way from a billion but still a lot of guns. Sucky. (I am a gun owner but still find this info sobering.)

I was looking for a stat that states the number Kalashnikov assault rifles exceeds the number of humans on the planet. If true, that is a sad statement…and people like Chavez are perpetuating the problem. Found this interesting photo essay that could be the fate of Venezuela in the next few years or months. Tragic. http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2009/07/ak-47/
