Well, I am certainly glad 2010 is going away. It was truly a bad year for me personally, a story that remains to be told one day. So, I am happy 2011 is coming and hope there is some change both in Venezuela and around me. Writing is in part an escape, an opportunity to verbalize feelings, organize thoughts. I do benefit from your input as it allows me to keep the important things in focus. So, many, many thanks from me to you.
And drinking a nice wine, celebrating with family is the way to wait for the new year. For the third or fourth year in a row, I will be going to Plaza Altamira to wait for the New Year. There is something very warm and cozy about saying Happy New Year with thousands of people around you. This year, I will go with more family including my 85 year old mother, which should make it even warmer.
To everyone of you, that your most important wishes become true in 2011 and that the new year brings you health, love and peace of mind, the three most important things there are and the ones that truly matter.
As we say here: !Un abrazo!

Thank you for producing this blog! While your 2010 may have been hard, you certainly did your bit–and much more–for democracy and human rights in Venezuela. I wonder if you really know how important it is. Keep it up in the New Year~!

Thanks for a very nice blog. The best source on Venezuelan affairs I have found.
Let’s hope we get some help from Cuba in showing Venezuelans that communism is dead. Also, remember all the stuff that went wrong for the govt this year in Venezuelan. Multiply and magnify those errors and failures by three as they grow exponentially, and pretty soon the Venezuelan “model” will demonstrate itself as an obvious fail, even to the majority of those still believing.
It’s gonna be a very rough year. But still, let’s pray for a year of increased peace, wisdom and morals in Venezuela.

Miguel,
I am so sorry this past year has been difficult for you, but you are, and have remained one of the few sane voices in a desert of crazies.
Your calm demeanor, your reasonable analysis, and your kindness to all serves as a role model for us all.
A very happy New Year to you and your family.Tell your Mom that in North Carolina there is a lady( firepigette) who is taking care of her 84 yr old Mom who was not able to stay up for the New Year, but was told by me of your mother’s excursion into the night. She was so motivated to do better and keep on struggling !!
It is amazing how people who are not even related in the physical world can touch lives and effect changes. You work is never in vain.
Peace!

Miguel, once again I want to thank you for your blog. For those of us who love Venezuela, but remain outside, it’s must reading.
And you, dear friend, are just that: a dear friend. I can only hope that 2011 keeps you and your loved ones safe from harm’s way.
Saludos.

Happy new year. You and Venezuela deserve much better. My local Midwestern newspaper ran my editorial submission, on the death of democracy that I wrote. A small thing in the big picture but it still felt nice to shine a light for Venezuela. God bless all I pray for a better year for all and my family.

To Miguel, who posts interesting and well-informed thoughts, and the readership, who enrich original comments with valuable input thus making DE a MUST GO TO place in cyberspace, happy new year. It is cliché to wish a happy new year, but boy, we really need one!
Miguel, why not UCV Plaza del Rectorado? Cecilia García is inviting those interested in defending liberties and free inquiry to accompany her. If I were in Venezuela, that would be my New Years place.
